Boozy eggnog, Raclette wheels and tea-cup fairground booths have arrived on the rooftops of Oxford Street, as new winter pop up Woody Bear opens.
Taking over the space that was formerly summer hit Sisu at 535 Oxford Street, Woody Bear offers some of the finest rooftop vibes in the capital with the venue’s first-ever wintertime pop-up. Design team DENLDN have created a venue inspired by an abandoned urban fairground where imaginations can run wild, with a dreamy Cheese Melt-Shack, Eggnog and Hot Gin Punch on tap.
Hidden behind a secret entrance on the corner of Marble Arch and Park Lane, Woody Bear is brought to life with carnival lights, repurposed fairground ride booths and swings, running alongside mixed log tables. Glass panels and heaters have been added to keep away the chill, along with blankets to curl up under, while overlooking the London skyline.
Cheese fans can rejoice as Woody Bear have collaborated with speciality croque-monsieur street food vendors Madame & Monsieur to offer a bespoke line of grilled cheese sandwiches including three signature croques; Le French, Le Swiss and Le Welsh, along with ever-changing specials. Tuck into the melty London Raclette from Kappacasein with potatoes, Jambon de Montagne, pickles and sauerkraut and served from a 6kg wheel, or dip into the Mont d’Or, from Jura region, baked in its spruce box and served with sourdough bread – the perfect sharing dish.
There is also a selection of petit plats, including charcuterie boards and salads, as well as group party menus, where guests can create their own bespoke winter feasts.
It’s all about the winter warmer cocktails at Woody Bear, with a coin-operated cocktail dispenser serving Hot Gin Punch and the classic Old Fashioned at the touch of a button. Head to the bar for signature serves including The Smokin’ Goat Fizz, or a Salty Susan with Sky Vodka, rosemary salted maple syrup and pink grapefruit juice.
Cocktails come in regular jars, or guests can opt for big jar or a new signature Eggnog; a seriously boozy concoction served in a retro flask – served for one or as a sharing flask. There’s also a list of nice, nicer and nicest wines, beers and a bubbly Cremant d’Alsace Mountain Fizz.
With capacity for up to 100 guests, including a private hut for up to 20 guests available to hire exclusively, Woody Bear is now serving food and drink between 5pm and 10pm Weds-Fri, and 3pm-10pm weekends from 3rd November until the end of December. The perfect pit-stop for the ultimate Christmas party, the space can host exclusive and semi exclusive events throughout the holiday season.
