Wouldn’t it be great if that “New Year – new me” trend meant that you could completely overhaul your wardrobe and change (and improve) your style? We all fantasize about something similar, but that’d be a disaster for our finances. On the bright side, you don’t have to do something that extreme in order to start the season in style. We give you a list of simple trend updates that will make you look as stylish as ever.

Glitter forever

The presence of glitter on every list of hottest trends shouldn’t surprise anyone, and those who love it will adore the upcoming season, as it will allow every glitter-lover to parade their favourite pieces. Of course, head-to-toe glitter is a bit extreme, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t rock an item or two when going out. Glittery tops look cute and you can always wear a nice jacket or a big shirt to balance them out. Simple handbags, brooches and scarves decorated with glitter are also a good choice, especially if you don’t want to stand out in the office or at school. This will add a discreet touch of shine to a classic look. If you want to draw attention on your night out, reach for a chainmail micro-dress, and anyone looking at you will wish they had sunglasses on.

Jackets to the rescue

We might look forward to spring after this long winter, but that doesn’t mean we get to wear shorts, flip-flops and mini dresses immediately. Still, that doesn’t mean that you can’t wear your favorite cute outfits either, as long as you have something to keep you warm – a stylish jacket. Bomber and windbreaker jackets are very popular today, and you can use them not only to stay warm, but to accessorize as well. If you’re tired of embroidered satin bomber jackets, you can always swap them for a flattering army green windbreaker instead.

Laid back gypsy pieces

Boho style has been present for several seasons now and it’s still very popular. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, seeing as colorful gypsy clothing is incredibly versatile and stylish. Not only are off-the-shoulder flowy tunics easy to pair up with laid-back pieces such as denim shorts and flip-flops, but they also go well with something a bit more elegant, such as well-tailored pants and stiletto heels. It’s great to have lace shorts, embroidered shirts and floral print dresses in your closet because this spring, it’s all about embracing colors and celebrating the lovely weather by wearing gypsy pieces.

Graphic handbags

This spring, it’s all about bold, eye-catching prints as far as the eye can see, and this might be just what your tiny strappy bag needed. It doesn’t matter if you like stripes, polka dots, daisies, checks, or comic book prints – if it’s bright, it means that it’s trendy. Another cool thing you might try is throwing your bag around your neck or over your shoulder to wear it like a fanny pack (another emerging trend, or so it seems). Not only is this stylish, but it’s convenient when you’re in a hurry, and you’re able to keep an eye on your bag as well. The best thing is that you can find a lot of graphic handbags in second-hand stores for relatively small prices.

One thing’s for sure: spring is going to inspire us to be bolder than ever. If you thought that socks with sandals is something to be avoided at all costs, or that bedazzled shoes are something to be seen on runways only, you’re mistaken. This spring it’s all about playfulness, creativity, and making a statement with your footwear. If previous seasons’ shoes were colorful and decorated with lace and pom-poms, this spring it’s all about glitter, faux jewels, and pearls. Pointy toes, faux fur, buckles and belts, straps, platforms and socks are all welcome, and you’re free to wear shoes that will complement your outfit nicely, as well as make a statement.

While buying new clothes and completely transforming our wardrobe every season might not be financially feasible, there are still ways to upgrade your style and follow the latest trends without having to go bankrupt. Embracing all the newness you see might be tempting, but if you play it smart, there’s no reason to miss out on anything. After all, aren’t trend updates one of the reasons we love the change of seasons in the first place?
