#FoodandDrink | Rudies Restaurant

The foodie was back with a vengeance after a few months of not going out to review any restaurants. However, I’m happy I took a break as I was treated to some of the best caribbean cuisine I have ever eaten. Rudies was a massive treat after a long week. Situated in Stoke Newington, Rudies is described as a ‘Hip Jamaican Joint’ and it is just that! With its wide array of Caribbean cuisine from the classics like Rice and peas and curried coat to everyone’s favourite; Jerk, Rudies simply delivered on every food option. The starters, main and dessert were all exceptional. I can go as far as saying that I couldn’t find anything wrong with anything; the food, service and setting were absolutely faultless.

#FashionINspired | Fashion Bloggers’ Picks for Winter 2017

Trends seem to be a living, breathing thing – they grow, shrink, change, evolve, and disappear, and people all over the world are trying to keep up. Fashion designers and models are among the most privileged ones for they have a chance to glimpse into the future and see what new trends await there, but what about the rest of the world? As we have a hard time attending Fashion Weeks and fashion shows, fashion bloggers always have our backs.

A Cream Coat

Sara Donaldson from the Harper and Harley blog is in love with monochrome and minimalism, which is evident in her style. On the other hand, even she admits that while black may be timeless and elegant, neutral colors are essential as well. Her pick for the winter is the Joseph cream coat, as it is convenient, soft, warm, and incredibly versatile. Neutrals in general are very popular, and you will see plenty of browns, creams, and caramels both on the runways and on the streets. A cream coat is the perfect pick because it’s the ultimate neutral – it goes well with denim, black, and other neutrals. You can wear it over light pieces and still be sure that you’ll be warm.

Soft Velvet

With a shine and texture to die for, velvet is here to stay! Velvet shoes and boots are a noticeable trend, as celebrities can’t get enough of them, but Tanesha Awasthi of the GIRL WITH CURVES blog took it a step further and opted for velvet leggings. Not only are these as comfortable as any leggings (and much more comfortable than any jeans), but the texture and the discreet shine of velvet make them the perfect piece to wear when you’re going for an elegant look. You can pair them with flats for those warmer days, or knee- or ankle-high boots when it’s cold. They aren’t see-through, which is also important, and they go nicely with form-fitting shirts and oversized sweaters.
Life in suede

Suede is back! It seems as if velvet and suede are no longer seen as obsolete, but they are slowly taking over the market. Soft, shiny, and incredibly comfortable, velvet and suede pieces are everywhere. Kathleen Harper from Kat’s Fashion Fix blog fell in love with a suede vest and she rocks the romantic look with true-blue denim and a ruffled blouse. Grab a nice Loewe bag and put on a pair of sexy Valentino suede heels with a side buckle, and you’ll feel like you’re ready to take over the world.

Elegant Tweed

Ladies, for those who can’t get enough of classic and romantic pieces, the following winter brings great news! Tweed is trendy again, just as checked flannel, and contrary to the old belief, tweed jackets aren’t ‘just for men’. You can wear it with delicate tulle skirts, pointy heels, and top with ribbons like Blair from the Atlantic//Pacific blog chose to do, or you can opt for a semi-formal style like Lizzy from Shot from the Street did. Lizzy layered a classic tweed jacket over a white knit sweater and paired it with dark faded skinny jeans. You can also choose to wear the most popular suede sock boots and top it all with a nice fedora hat and oversized sunglasses to get that mysterious look.

Those who blindly follow trends are at risk of wearing pieces which they don’t feel comfortable in, and that’s a tragedy. The most important thing to remember is that trends aren’t rules and they shouldn’t be seen as such. They are more like guidelines which should direct us further down the fashion road: find inspiration in what’s popular today, and change it so that it reflects who you are.
